Come on Porsche, be cool! We all know the 911 GT3 is absolutely badass. The reason it is badass is because Porsche essentially tries to make a 911 GT3 race car into a street car with the model. It essentially denotes a GT3 race caliber vehicle and that is where the name originates.

Porsche believes GT3 belongs to them though and is doing what they believe is in their best interest by attempting to limit its use to their own models. Is anyone really going to confuse the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with the 991 GT3?

This network recognizes GT3 models as race spec models designed with GT3 class racing in mind. The street cars muddy this somewhat but that is what the GT3 name denotes. GT3 class racing. Not the 911 GT3 in particular.

Porsche has succeeded in getting Aston Martin to change the name but it's a bit of a childish move. Aston Martin did not seem to want to fight this and just named the car Vantage GT12 instead.

This begs the question, why isn't anyone at Porsche bitching at Bentley for the Continental GT3 R model? Well, the obvious answer is because Bentley is part of the VW Group which means they escape Porsche's wrath. But if Porsche can let the Continental GT3 go why can't they let the Vantage GT3 go?

The Germans are a lot of fun, aren't they?
