SEMA 2014 - Toyota gathers a crowd with their FT-1 concept car

Toyota gathered quite a crowd with their FT-1 Concept vehicle at the SEMA show. This car is rumored as the successor to the Supra and possibly also will be the result of the BMW and Toyota technology sharing partnership agreement. That likely means Toyota hybrid technology paired to a BMW gasoline engine.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment and reports are all over the place but Toyota continues to push this concept hard for attention at shows. It certainly works as the car had a crowd gathered around it all day.

Obviously the looks are fantastic but will these translate to production if it even makes production? If Toyota's previous track record with concepts is referenced the answer is no. The production version will look like nothing like this even though it should look exactly like this.

Regarding what is under the skin, the latest reports point to a four-cylinder motor with a hybrid drivetrain supplementing it. Additionally, a fairly light for this day and age 3085 pound curb weight.

We will have to wait and see what happens but styling is one area that certainly is already a hit. Hopefully this becomes more than just a design exercise.
