Registration from Dealer
Question - When you buy your car from a dealer do they give you the old title and handle all the paperwork with DMV (I paid them for this) or do they just register everything direct with the DMV, keep the old title and then DMV sends us a new title
or
Do we also need to go to DMV. Reading the NYS DMV website is effing confusing.
The dealer I bought a used 996 TT from gave me new plates, a temporary registration NYS paper (on windshield) which was only valid for the day I got the car 4/3/14.
I have temporary insurance cards and a dealer invoice.
Does the DMV mail you a full registration sticker for the plates and a new title in a few weeks or do we have to go back to the DMV to get title and longer registration. Seems strange they give new plates but no registration sticker !
This is the first time in 10 years I have bought from a dealer and as they didnt give me the old title I thought it strange.
Sorry if this sounds dumb... it is all new to me in NYDriving fresh air now

It depends on the dealer honestly. They usually take care of everything but that's with new cars.
If used I think it varies by the dealer.
Just give them a call or e-mail. Probably best to call since I think there is a 10 day period to report it.BRAND NEW IN BOX 991.2 standard/non-pse SPW cat bypass pipe for sale - $899 shipped

Most dealers have you sign a POA that lets them handle the title/tag work on your behalf.
