SRT Viper team pulls out of the 24 Hours of Le Mans - Financial issues?

The bad news for the Viper just keeps on rolling in. Chrysler announced earlier this month that the Dodge Viper factory would be put on a temporary hiatus and workers would be laid off due to low demand for the SRT Viper. Now it appears the professional racing program is affected as well with the SRT team declining to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This seems to be a financial issue but SRT is not acknowledging it as such. They state they intend to focus on North American racing. SRT President Ralph Giles stated, "We regretfully and respectfully decline to participate in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. We are honored to once again be invited by the [race organizer, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest] to compete in this historic event, and they were the first to be informed of our decision. We will remain focused on our North American racing program in 2014."

This is sad to see considering the Vipers have dominated their class in years past. Are there problems brewing at SRT? It sure looks like it.

They don't have the money, simple as that.

Meanwhile Corvette Racing shows up at each Tudor race and builds this in the paddock. It dwarfs any of the other teams setups.

I'm really starting to like everything about what GM is doing with the Corvette.

It's a shame Chrysler can't do the same with the Viper. This is going to definitely affect whether we see another Viper after this one.
