    AREA74's i02 catalytic converter simulator is a universal o2 sim for all cars

    Emission regulations are increasingly a problem for enthusiasts these days. This is not about people breaking the law but about people who want to mod their cars and use them in a competition settings without CEL's (check engine lights) and limp mode issues.

    We already reported last month on Area74's N55 downpipe fix. The thing is, their system works on all cars and not just those equipped with the N55 motor. They are also shipping their system globally.

    Why is it different than other solutions on the market? This is why:

    The io2 itself, is actually a programmed device that reads an actual o2 sensor voltage, then cleans it up.

    The software within the io2 will force the output to act as though a catalytic converter is present in the exhaust. So the PCM will see the signal, pass the o2 function test and when it comes time for the dreaded p0420,p0430the software takes care of that too.
    Essentially the ECU will think a cat is still in place. You just wire it in and it works. The io2V3.0 CatSim is a computer in itself that calculates the needed voltage levels required to pass a cat efficiency test.

    Question; What about some other devices on the market for simulating o2 sensors?

    Answer; Many devices currently on the market are based on a 555 timer, or a simple low pass filter circuit. Yes they do work, sometimes, sometimes they don’t, they are hit or miss. The iO2 is a programmed microcontroller with software that creates the simulated output voltage, we feel the most reliable approach.

    Question; How many iO2’s will I need? some devices can be wired to two o2 sensors at the same time.

    Answer; you will need as many io2’s as you have rear oxygen sensors (please see our support page). You cannot reliably use a single simulator for two rear o2 sensors, eventually the engine computer on many vehicles will try to test the function of the rear o2 sensors, it may not test each one at the same time, unlike other simulators,the io2’s software is designed to recognize these tests,so simply put, this will not and cannot work.

    Question; Will the iO2 work on my “whatever” vehicle?

    Answer, YES! as long as you are using a low band O2 sensor as the input (every vehicle uses a low band for the rear O2 sensor) and the output is simulating a low band O2. This includes all vehicles, even Chrysler,Jeep and Dodge products.

    For $79.99 you are not going to beat this system. This is a fix for literally every car out there.

    My only beef with the DPfix was how much fiddling I had to do. In the end it was able to get everything in order but candidly it was random luck/messing with the pot enough.

    I'll need something like this in the fall so good to keep in mind. I'm a little confused as to how you'd wire up two of these suckers (IE what DME wires would you be splicing this inline with?)

    Based on the device having four wires, it looks like they are made to wire directly into the rear o2 connectors. You would ideally want to pick up spare connectors for the bank 1 and 2 rear o2 (they are keyed differently), and hook the o2 sim wires into the connectors. This way you could easily connect / disconnect them and switch back to the actual rear o2 sensors.

    Unlike the dp fix, I believe it's spliced into the cable running to each of the 02 sensors and that it is not attached directly to the DME.

    For the N54 with two post-cat 02 sensors, looks like you'd need to get two of these sims.

    So does this mean, the car will not require a tune? and if running catless DP, the ECU will still run the AFR the same?

    The idea is to not generate a CEL but I think you would still need a tune if going catless to adjust the AFR.

    The tune (MHD, JB4, etc.) should suppress a CEL. The sim is necessary to show "readiness" for purposes of an OBDII emissions inspection.

    The way some tuners disable the CEL though can alert the dealership you're tuned. Ask me how I know.

    This way you wouldn't need to do that I would think as the ECU wouldn't know.

    YES, it will work fine. however most still like to tune for a little added power.

    also one more important note,
    JB4 runs an "autoclear" function, I am sure you are all aware of this feature.....the trouble is, it clears all codes! even the one's you might need to see. With the io2, you can turn autoclear off and be warned of any important faults.

    the io2V3.0 CatSim is more of a catalyst simulator then a o2 sim.

    We have spent nearly 2 years developing what we feel is the next level of o2 simulators, a very smart simulator to allow you to install a catless exhaust, CODE free, of course for off road/track use only.

    Yes you need two. He said it in another post. You need one per rear o2

    thanks again for the great support.

    the io2V3.0 CatSim has been a great hit.
    We started out hoping to help all you who enjoy modding your rides, one of the easier mods being exhaust, we were asked to develop, and we did.

    the smartest rear o2 sim available, nothing can do what the io2V3.0 can do. and we are very proud of it.
