    RIP Jeff Hagaman

This guy had the fastest V2 CTS-V and was a badass. Died at Wannagofast Nola in his GTR at over 200mph.

    Sad day.

Track issues may have been one small part of the equation. If you plan to run 200MPH+, you should know the track, and any possible issues it may have, you should have proper safety equipment, etc, etc. Responsibility falls I feel on multuiple shoulders. Just sad it had to come to that. I expect to see much tighter safety sanctions on half mile racing now.

The track was definitely garbage in the shutdown area. Potholes and bumps and dust/dirt on the surface, I woudln't have wanted to go 200+ on that with just a 4 point roll bar.

I agree that there needs to be higher tech requirements for this type of racing over a certain MPH. The wording of the regulations say "these are the super lax safety requirements but WE RECOMMEND you have a lot more blah blah the responsibility is up to you"

The shutdown area is of incredible importance with cars running at these speeds. Who OK'd this?

Yeah unfortunately it doesn't show leading up to how he got off track but from all accounts the shut down was bumpy and dusty so at those speeds you start getting a little loose and any more bumps or dirt can $#@! you up quick.
And once he started to roll at those speeds it was like a washer on spin cycle you can see metal bits flying hundreds of feet up in the air.

I saw a 200MPH GTR spin into the dirt at the end of his run about 4 SS events ago. It was windy he popped the chute, and it yanked him sideways, he lucked out, and car did not dig in, it spun about 8 times in the dirt. No one blamed SS event staff for letting them run in Windy conditions, that could have turned out much different if the GTR would have dug in as this one did and got airbourne. Disappoting to see people holding the event for 100% of the blame, we all know the risks when we do this.

It isn't necessarily the events fault.

Just trying to get an understanding if it was conditions or if the shutdown area was to blame.

What are Shift Sector's safety requirements? I think it has just been a matter of time before something like this happened if all of these 1/2 mile events have such lax safety standards.

There was a guy in a GTR last year at the Texas Mile who rolled at 255mph and survived because they strictly enforce best practices for safety (full cage, harness, HANS, etc etc).
Also there is no way the shutdown area looked like this at ANY of those other events and if it did then the organizers deserved the backlash for letting 200+mph cars run.

It is the rumor and you can kind of see from the video you can see he was partially ejected from the car..that certainly wouldn't have happened if there was a full cage, harness, HANS etc.

Also, this is what it looked like where Jeff crashed...those bumps are basically death sentence at these speeds. I would say the organizers screwed up big time with the choice of track, lack of safety enforcement, and letting these really fast cars run in these conditions. Some of these other events like SS have prevented the big boys from running if they didn't have enough braking space.

99% blame falls on track. Could he have survived if he had more safety equipment? sure, likely, maybe not. would he have lost control if not for those bumps? 99%. negligence on behalf of the event for securing that venue without proper testing and verification. I expect a lawsuit to be coming soon

Sorry to read this. Didn't know the driver but RIP. Most of us do a few slow-speed runs to get a feel for the track before going for a record so I don't think you can fully blame the track. But better safety regulations are a really good idea given the high speed and higher risks involved in the 1/2 mile.
