FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne dead at 66 years old

This is obviously sad news and FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) lost its CEO who helped organize the merger. There were many critics but it is hard to argue Chrysler, FIAT, and the various associated brands are not much better of today than they were just five years ago.

Sergio Marchionne also helped spin Ferrari off into its own entity in 2016 which was a controversial move as well but one that generated quite a bit of money.

Today FCA is the eighth largest automaker in the world and from an enthusiast perspective doing some very interesting things from the Hellcats, to performance Alfa Romeo models, Maserati, etc.

Marchionne was in a coma the past few days due to complications from surgery for cancer. He was 66 years old.

Seriously, those guys SAT on the LaFerrari?

Was pretty interesting when Marchionne was trying to court a partner - ANY partner! - manufacturer for FCA, and never found anyone interested.

I have no special like for Marchionne but to be fair ... You say FCA, Fiat, etc. are not much better though? S

o he brought Fiat back to the US, where - from what I see on the road - they're doing fairly well. (not my taste, but I see a ton of 500's, etc.) Plus the Alfa re-intro to the US market, allow us to have things like Guiliani's, 4C, etc. - I think that was great.

And with FCA - the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a huge success story, not sure about overall sales for all models, but moreover the rise in cultural significance of Dodge with the Hellcat/Demon, etc.

I guess, to my eyes, FCA is in better shape than it was 10 years ago.

    That's exactly it.

I don't revere him or anything but Chrysler and FIAT certainly are in better shape now.
