Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix unanimously approved - US to have two F1 Grand Prix

Excellent news for American motorsports fans. Remember that Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix proposal? The city commission unanimously approved it and it is not hard to understand why. The race will generate billions of dollars for the Miami economy.

The US now has potentially two F1 Grand Prix on the calendar for 2019 but there are still challenges. Miami first has to draw up a contract and then decisions need to be made on the dates and the actual course.

Miami's mayor is excited:

F1 is a worldwide sport with approximately 1.8 billion TV viewers annually. I believe it will help in the transition of the City of Miami from a gateway city to a global city.

It has a potential economic boost of over $2.8 billion, [a figure recorded] between the years of 2012 and 2015 in downtown Austin, which is the only other city in the United States that has an F1 race. We would be probably the only city in the world that has F1 and all five major [U.S.] sports.

This is a first step, and hopefully at some point there will be an agreement come before this commission that has been vetted by the community and be voted on.

The first hurdles have been cleared and it seems everyone wants this to happen. Now let's see that course...

The latest design of what the track will look like.
Looking at the run-off area's it's going to be anti-clockwise.
Not sure where the pits area will be.
The race is planned in October 2019.
There is a contract in place for the coming 10 years, up to and including 2029.

The latest news, as of today, is that this GP will not happen in 2019, but will start in 2020.
You could easily go to Austin. That's a lot closer for you as well.

This is awesome. I will definitely be there. I go to Austin every other year, been going since the the first race in 2012.

Been to Houston though. Texans are nice people as far as I experienced. Some are weird though
But if you're going for a Formula1 race, the main thing is you'll be there with other Formula1 fans.
Which will always make for a great atmosphere.

I like Texans and Texas but the Miami scene is more my style.

Houston has some ghetto areas that are best avoided.

Austin is cleaner but Houston has more going on.
