plus you could also say Tesla is still in the start-up phase (relative to its Big-Auto competitors) As a start-up you want to burn cash on innovation and R&D. It sounds crazy but its true, a lot of VCs wouldn't invest in companies if they saw you weren't spending cash. That was just one metric to show that maybe you were just full of $#@! and not really innovating and creating.
Tesla has done several amazing things and they continue to innovate and do more things no other company has done before. Innovation is their strong suit. Where I think they went wrong is trying to do volume manufacturing, that should have been recognized and not their bread and butter and should have been outsourced.
