Looks about right. C63 definitely is modded to run with the M5 at those speeds, probably tune and filters, that easily gets you to 500+ right there. Weight is about the same, which is shocking to think about. M5 definitely would've been ahead with the shorter gears, much faster shifts and more time in the powerband you get with the SMG.

The rotating assembly of the S85 is fine to 10k RPM according to several I've heard from, the cams simply aren't designed to make any power that high. No real point in running an otherwise-stock S85 much past 8400. As far as I can tell no one has ever popped even a stock one from over-revving. As far as the rod bearings, spend $800, get the BE rod bearings, get them installed at a decent indy that can do it without pulling the engine, you're good to go.

It would be quicker with the SMG I think as well due to the shift speed and consistency but at higher speeds the 6-speed's gearing may be better.

If the M3 was manual the M5 no doubt would have handled it.

Yep. BMW tested the rotating assembly to 10k rpm.

You can get the Schrick cams and rev it out after that and make some power.

I really would love to build an S85 one day.

Is the S65 expected to be solid to 10k as well?

lmao 10k?stick to a max of 8600,the rod bearings don't just wear out they can also break under load, clearance issue and oil lub problem

The wear issues are consistent across the S85 as well as the S65. RPM's arent going to kill the bearings. I'ts more of an informational question as I obviously wouldnt be revving my bolt on S65 much over stock. It would be fun to have a high compress + e85 + schrick cams motor revving that high though, assuming it makes power up there.

You're not understanding. That was BMW stress testing the design. Nobody is saying rev to 10k. You won't make power at 10k on the stock cams anyway.

9k with a pair of aggressive schrick cams would be interesting though.

I cant remember who posted it but it was about a year ago. I know it was built by MRF engineering, a pretty popular shop here in the OC.

How popular are they if I don't know them and I live in the OC?

    Anyway, thanks, looking into it.

Popular enough that many of family members and friends knew about them. They are known for built engines and a lot of custom work. Really good work

I have about 3-4 family members that have gone to them, nothing but praise about them.
