This comparison is not nearly as comprehensive as AutoTrader UK's Hot Hatch Megatest from last month. What the South Africans at Cars.co.za have going for them though is that the conditions are not nearly as damp. Still, this is a somewhat flawed comparison.

Why? Because they do a standing start for each car which means of course the all wheel drive cars will gain time on the launch. The M2 and Civic are penalized for their layouts. In a way though the Civic should have to suffer for being front wheel drive.

The reason the starting procedure is so important here is due to the result. The A45 AMG and BMW M2 basically tie but if the M2 did not have to try to launch to make up time the gap would probably be wider:

The RS3 finishes in third and the poor Civic just needs to go home:

It's a decent comparison but we'll wait for some better track testing from other publications before coming to a conclusion. It certainly does look like the M2 is the quickest around the track although it takes the most skill to extract its performance.
