BMW i8 vs. F82 M4 drag race

Top Gear decided to pit the i8 against the BMW F82 M4 in a drag race. Now, we already know what will happens and which of these is the more powerful and faster car. The S55 inline-6 under the hood the M4 makes more power at the wheels than the i8 has at the crank.

The i8 is no slouch but if performance is your concern it underperforms for the money. It's more an efficiency tech showpiece for BMW than a performance car. It will get to 60 in 3.8 seconds and through the 1/4 mile in 12.3 @ 114 miles per hour.

The M4 and i8 both weigh about the same so that will not be the deciding factor. What should happen is the i8 opens up a lead off the line thanks to the instant electric torque only for the M4 past 60 miles per hour to reel it in and easily pass pulling hard the longer the race goes.

It's pretty lame when Top Gear has the M4's driver reading the manual to figure out how to launch it. These people are supposed to know the cars. Despite finally figuring out launch control they still spin the tires out of the hole essentially giving the i8 a big lead the M4 has to then try to overcome.

They choose entertainment and staging a result where the i8 wins rather than properly launching the M4 to show what it is capable of and showing just how much more powerful it is. Not to mention they could have tried a lower rpm launch but who expects them to try to minimize variables?

Once again the Brits show they can't drag race and they also do not provide trap speeds. Don't take this too seriously because it's amateur hour.
