    Drag race between a stock 2015 Mercedes E63 AMG S 4Matic and a stock Chevrolet Corvette C7 7-speed manual

Interesting drag race here between two very different cars. One being a German luxury performance sedan with a twin turbo V8 and the other a two seat American sports car with naturally aspirated V8 power. Fun to put such different cars against each other, right?

On paper this is a mismatch though. The E63 AMG S has all wheel drive and its twin turbo 5.5 liter M157 V8 offers 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. With an automatic transmission even a grandmother can launch it. Off the line with its torque and horsepower advantage it should easily take this drag race.

That is not say the C7 Corvette is a slouch. The LT1 direct injected and naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 is a gem offering 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It also weighs considerably less than the E63 AMG 4Matic. Roughly 1000 pounds less which is huge. However, with the 7-speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive it takes considerably more skill to launch and pilot down the 1320.

The Corvette gets off the line first as the E63 is sleeping at the tree but the launch is a poor 2.25 for the C7 compared to an also poor 2.14 60 foot for the E63. The end result is a 12.511 @ 118.06 for the Corvette and a 12.254 @ 118.16 for the E63 AMG S although the Corvette does cross the 1/4 mile marker first winning the race. Not exactly the quickest times for these stock examples partially due to the poor launches but keep in mind this run took place a PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) in Florida which tends to see humid weather conditions.

It certainly is interesting that the trap speed between the two is so close. There is something to be said for power to weight.

If both are stock as mentioned in the video, then I would have thought that th E63 would over take it with a much better trap speed being that it's AWD. Could the C7 be tuned ???

It could be but the car can hit that number stock.

The E63 looked like it just didn't launch well.

    Neither of them did.
