An RB turbo upgrade BMW E90 335i N54 takes on a stock W212 Mercedes E63 AMG S from a roll

Interesting race here showing off the strength of the N54 with OEM turbo housing upgrades from Rob Beck. The 335i camera car is running a BMS JB4 tune on map 7 in addition to an ETS FMIC (front mount intercooler), BMS downpipes, Alpina automatic transmission software flash, and a BMS dual cone intake.

The E63 AMG S is stock but puts out 522 horsepower at the wheels stock from its 5.5 liter twin turbo M157 V8. It's a very fast car capable of 120-122 1/4 mile trap speeds off the showroom floor. It does weigh roughly 1000 pounds more than the 335i though.

The E63 for some reason hangs back until the cones and then gets on it what seems like after the 335i accelerates. Down low it hangs in there and closes the gap even appearing to pull at one point.

The 335i then in higher speeds passes the E63 and just keeps on pulling. It opens a up nice lead and wins this one easily.

The E63 is said to have a poor driver but no matter who was driving that top end pull of the N54 with upgraded turbos would not be stopped by a stock E63 AMG S. The owner needs a tune to uncork that AMG beast.

With a proper tune the E63 S would have left that Bimmer in the dust. That car has a massive jump in performance with a tune.

This RB car is my good friends and it's far from running at its full potential. His turbo's have seen better days so he runs at boost levels that stock turbo's can run. He has more top end power than stock turbo's but not by much. A properly running RB N54 would have beaten this AMG by atleast 3 more car lengths. The last four times we raced at NFZ I've beat him in my stock turbo FBO E60 Meth N54 so obviously his car isn't running like a true RB car.

Well, yes, likely it would have. The E63 S still lost to a 335i.

Yes it sure did lose. A tune transforms it into a completely different car.

Of course. Tuning transformed the 335i too Click here to enlarge

But yes, there is a lot of untapped potential there and showing up to one of these things with a stock E63 AMG S should make one get a tune the moment the event is over.

Very true. The tune is really transformative on this car.

How long has he had the turbos?

Just under a year and a half.
