Racewars 2014
So I went to an airstrip racing event last weekend called Racewars (yes like Fast and Furious haha). It is about 200kms North East of Perth in a small country town of around 500 people called Wyalkatchem. I had an awesome time so thought I tell you people about it.
The program for the weekend was
Friday arvo - test session
Saturday morning - 400m standing start races
Saturday arvo - 800m roll races
Sunday morning - 800m roll races
Sunday arvo - 1km vmax runs (one car at a time)
Had a good variety of cars there, lots of fast Japanese cars and local and American muscle with a good dash of Euros mixed in. Although there was a lot less exotics this year with only one Gallardo. I don't think the egos held up well to getting beaten by 20+ year old japanese cars last year.
My car ran well all weekend, and even though it was definitely not up the fast end of the pack I managed to win a fair few races mostly do to the instant boost and DCT.
Managed a Vmax of 223kmh in the 1km run. I only did one because it was 35c and I knew I wasn't going to do any better after queuing up in the heat for another run.
Thought it was interesting that there were two Gintani cars there, first was a Stage 1 supercharged e60 M5. Unfortunately he only just finished installing the supercharger and was having issues with the injectors all weekend. The kit is not plug and play for RHD cars, he says he spent over 60 hours getting it to work and had to fabricate a few parts (like power steering reservoirs, wiring harnesses etc) due to differences in Australian cars. But overall he was very impressed with the quality of the kit and the support he received, he even had Alex from Gintani call him on Saturday morning to see how he was going.
There was also a stage 2 supercharged M3, which was actually a bit underwhelming, I was passenger in a 335i which had RB turbos, and was running and OFT E40 tune and we beat it by 4-5 car lengths in 800m. Unfortunately the guy didn't compete Sunday due to some indiscretions Saturday night, so he didn't do the VMax runs.
Just for reference this is what the BMWs did over 1 km
Supercharged M5 250kmh
N54 335i with RB Turbos and E40 248kmh
N54335i stock turbos 100% e85 241kmh
N55 DCT 135i, FBO PTF E40 tune (me) 223kmh
N54 335i FBO, PTF 98 tune 222kmh
Full results are here
Fastest car of the weekend was a R32 GTR that got to 306.66kmh in 17.7 seconds over 1000m. Which is pretty nuts, considering he then only had 500m of bumpy tarmac to slow down.

There's a decent Australian contingent here so I'm surprised as well. I thought you guys would be super into this.

It's a good lay out for an event. A day and a half of roll racing just for fun, then finish up with standing start timed runs for those serious about times and/or traps.

if you check out a population density map you'd probably see why - 200km north east of perth is probably the second worst place to hold an event like this... worst being central australia/center of northern territory.
I think they hold, or used to hold, a similar event on the east coast, near Sydney. not 100% sure though, the motorsports community is very strange over here imo.boop

There are a couple of runway events over east (Snowy Mountains 1000 and I can't remember the other). Two of the fastest cars (306kmhr R32 GTR and 290kmhr Supra) from this event are heading over east to do them.
But they are purely a solo 1000m timed run, this is different because it includes a day and half of racing as well.
Not much they can do about the location, this was the most suitable (non-military) air strip within a reasonable distance of Perth.

The track looks like it's very $#@!ty. Watch the supra at the 18 minute mark and you'll see what I mean.

Gintani. It has since done it's rod bearings. I think at the moment he has a new engine with no supercharger.
Haha I'll tell her.
Blue 135i is mine.
Lots of pics here if you're interested.
