    Mclaren P1 Vs. Aventador

    - Dragtimes.com We have some video of a Volcano Yellow McLaren P1 going heads up vs a Baby Blue Lamborghini Aventador in Jakarta, Indonesia. The races starts at 3:51 into the video and as would be expected isn’t close, but fun to watch either way. Even with an 700 horsepower all wheel drive launch the Aventadors can’t keep up with the McLaren’s 903 horsepower, dual clutch transmission and lighter weight. McLaren P1 Engine: 3.8L V8 Twin Turbo Plus Electric Motor Transmission: 7 speed dual clutch Horsepower: 903 Weight: 3,200 pounds Lamborghini Aventador Transmission: 7 speed ISG Engine: 6.5L V12 Horsepower: 700 Weight: 3,700 pounds

McLaren P1 vs. Lamborghini Aventador drag race

The Lamborghini Aventador is spectacularly fast in stock form. 0-60? Just 2.7 seconds. 1/4 mile? 10.4 seconds and 136 miles per hour. The naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 under the hood makes 691 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels thanks to an all wheel drive system. The carbon fiber and aluminum frame gives it a 3795 pound curb weight. Impressive figures right?

Unfortunately for the Aventador the McLaren P1 puts it to shame. For more than twice the price and due to coming to market a couple years later it better. MotorTrend got 0-60 in in 2.6 seconds from the P1. The 1/4 mile time is 9.8 seconds at 148.9 miles per hour. Its hybrid drivetrain provides 904 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. More power, more torque, and it weighs roughly 500 pounds less than the Aventador. On paper, this is no contest.

The two cars were pitted against each other in Indonesia for a 1/4 mile sprint but unfortunately no data was provided as to the acceleration figures. At the 3:50 minute mark you can see the race but the footage beforehand has some gorgeous shots of the P1 and the MP4-12C that are worth watching.

The P1 is simply an incredible machine. That said, so is the Aventador.
