Ferrari 458 Speciale vs. Porsche 991 Turbo S Cabriolet 60-300 km/h roll on race

We have seen this same Porsche 991 Turbo S Cabriolet run against a 458 Italia before on the runway. In that particular race, the Porsche 991 Turbo S Cabriolet comes out on top of the prancing horse rather easily. This 458 is the Speciale model though and it is meaner and lighter than the standard 458 Italia. The naturally aspirated 4.5 liter V8 gets a boost to 605 horsepower partially thanks to an incredible 14.0:1 compression ratio increase.

The standard 458 Italia by contrast has a 12.5:1 compression ratio and 35 less horses. It also carries almost 200 more pounds and it shows as the 991 Turbo S has much more trouble with the 458 Speciale than it did with the 458 Italia.

The 458 does get a slight jump on the 991 Turbo S in this run. However, it continues a steady pull on the 991 Turbo S and is clearly the faster car of the two. That begs the question, how would it do against the lighter 991 Turbo S coupe especially if it did not have a passenger recording?

Hopefully we see that race at some point but it is incredible how Ferrari squeezed so much more performance out of the 458 platform with the Speciale without resorting to any forced induction.

No surprise there, the specs dictated who would win and it did, would be really ugly result on a curvy racetrack

I don't know. It was interesting to me considering the outcome of the 458 Italia. The 'specs' aren't always right.

If this was a coupe and minus the passenger, I can almost guarantee this would be an even race...or even a slight edge to the Porsche. We're talking at least 300 pounds less weight, probably a lot more.

    And don't underestimate a 991 around a track...the GT3 is dead even with a 458 S around a track. With steel brakes.

I'd like to see the coupe race without the passenger. Would it be even? It sure would be a lot closer.

The Speciale will crush the 991 Turbo around a track.

the weight doesn't affect you as much from a roll, i think it would still pull the coupe

I tried to explain this to someone but you can't argue with people who don't understand basic natural physical laws.

its not an opinion its a fact! A simple way to see it is in your fuel economy, single digits to get the car rolling and move all that weight, once cruising it gets normal economy because the cars own weight is not as much as burden on the engine at that point. Same as when you push a car by hand, hard to start but once rolling the weight is not as much of a factor.
