Audi shows what they can do with a triple-charged diesel - RS5 TDI concept packs 385 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque
BMW made waves when they announced the M diesel range consisting of a triple turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-6 diesel motor offering 381 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. Audi has an answer of sorts with the RS5 TDI concept featuring a twin turbo 3.0 liter V6 diesel motor that also uses an electric compressor to assist with lag. This results in a tri-charged motor using two conventional turbos and an electric supercharger (Audi calls it a turbo for some reason) at the same time.
The diagram of the engine gives you an idea of how this works but BMW's approach does not use an electric supercharger and is more conventional. Audi also does not actually offer this engine in production and has no plans to. They are showing off but when it comes to German diesel six cylinder performance BMW actually has Audi beat. Of course, Audi still has their awesome V10 turbo diesel that has no German challengers.
A very, very cool concept from Audi but how about making it reality? And how about bringing some of these diesels to the USA? Daydreams are fun and all but if it never makes production this is just a big tease.

I don't get it, producing turbos are not that cheap.

What we have to look at here is the DPF and EGR also the car would be a Direct Injected Diesel. I say this cause we 335d's are having BIG issues with the aforementioned items and they cause HAVOC on our diesels. Im in the misdts of removing my EGR and DPF soon Im pumping 318 whp and 425 lb/tq on the wheels and If I had more highway space here in Puerto Rico i can get 42-44 mpg at 70 mph
