New premium and larger Aston Martin Sedan on the way? Aston possibly prepping a new 'Lagonda'
The Lagonda moniker holds important significance for Aston Martin. The name comes from a premium British automaker Aston Martin purchased in 1947. It is no coincidence that purchase came after the end of World War II but this is not the time for a history lesson. Aston Martin used the Lagonda name as the title for their Lagonda four door sedan which they produced for four generations from 1974 until 1990.
A revival of the model certainly appears possible as Aston Martin is testing a big, big premium sedan here. Aston Martin already has the Rapide four door sedan in the lineup so why someone at Aston Martin apparently thinks the company needs another sedan when they seem to be having financial difficulties is anyone's guess.
This is Aston's own platform and is not based on anything from Mercedes-Benz. Aston will likely fit an AMG motor under the hood to move this big sedan.
Is this just a new model though or a one-off? Aston Martin did confirm with Road and Track that is their test mule and they would reveal the car at some point this year. It may just be a small boutique project rather than a new model to add to the lineup. We will have to wait to find out exactly what it is.
