    Racing seat advice/suggestions please!

    Hey guys,

I'd like to start looking at racing seats for the 335i. I know the big brands are recaro and sparco, but not really sure what all to look for and most importantly how to know it's going to fit right. Let me know what you have and how you like it.

I'm a bigger guy, at about 6' 3" tall, and I want to be comfortable even during a 3-4 hour drive. This is very important to me.

Not sure, how you guys feel about head protection, but I'm not really looking for something to wrap around my head like NASCAR, since it's not a dedicated race car.

I don't want to spend $2k on a seat either, lol. especially when I plan on buying a matching one for passenger sometime soon as well.

Lastly, does anyone know of anywhere you can actually sit in and try a seat out?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I have a Recaro Pole Position seat. Cheap, light, simple.

I know here Recaro has shops where you can try and fit a car seat, or an offshore boat seat for that matter.
Not sure if that service exists in the USA as well.

I obviously need to start selling drugs. $4000+ for a seat is stupid.

Whatever you end up with make sure it's a reputable company and research the safety standards, last thing you want to do is die in a serious crash because your seat broke.

Just curious, why do you want racing seats? Weight savings? I'm 6'4" and would be in your situation of needing to be comfortable. Racing seats will have a tradeoff and I'm not sure I could live with it.

I would go on the website of a seat mfg your interested in and see if anyone local to you has them in a showroom or something, even if it's a longer drive it's probably worth it.

Hmm they look comfortable but also look a bit short and not sure how much they weigh. I'd rather not go to a leather seat unless it's genuine leather like I have now Click here to enlarge but I like that style and saw them on Turner Motorsports.

Here's what I'm looking at now just wish I could sit in one first...

    http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-21...race-seat.aspx

    Or

    http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-22...line-seat.aspx

Again, not sure what the weigh of the second option is. I'd be happy with even a 20-25 lb weight savings per seat.

Have you sat in an RS4? It has the most comfortable and forming seats I've ever sat in. I don't how much they weigh but damn are they nice.

I want a seat that I can use a 4 or 5 point harness, ideally 5 point. I also want something that forms a bit more to me and any weigh savings is just a bonus.

I haven't sat in a rs4. I love those BMW performance seats, made by recaro, but they are expensive. I'm pretty sure the recaro sportster cs Is the same thing.

These are what I would get if I were you.

If you're going to spend $1000 might as well just step up and spend $1300 for real Sportsters, Euro RS4s are going to be $4000+

Performance seats ftw! they look great, hold you in place and still offer good comfort. Just a shame they're not really light.

Yeah, same as the sportser CS which are ~$1300/each and weigh 33lbs/each. They only support a 4 point harness though, and if I go to a track and they actually check, I'll need 5 point. Need to get a helmet too, but not sure where to go for that either...lol

I think I'll probably end up with the RECARO Profi XL seat to accommodate me, or just go with the sportster CS on the assumption 4 point would be enough. It would be nice to have adjustable seat back

    If you want reclining:

    http://europeanautosource.com/produc...ning-seat.html

If you want a fixed back:

    http://europeanautosource.com/produc...cing-seat.html

Both seats are very comfortable, they would be my choices. Depends on your needs, reclining vs fixed back. The pole positions are probably some of most comfortable fixed back seats I have sat in.

Skipped over the part where you needed a bigger seat. Yeah the Recaro Profi XL is a good choice.
