Supercharged Ariel Atom vs Porsche Panamera Turbo S drag race

Why drag race these cars? Because you can and it's fun, that's why. EVO has the similar thoughts about this being interesting to see and although these are completely different vehicles with different purposes both are fast. The Atom is much, much, much, much, much, lighter. Did that point come across clearly? The Atom weighs roughly 1200 pounds. This is more than 3,000 pounds lighter than the Porsche Panamera Turbo S.

Obviously raw power is on the side of the Panamera Turbo S with its 570 horsepower from the 4.8 liter twin turbo V8. With roughly 4400 pounds to move that gives a ratio of 7.71 pounds per horse. The atom with its supercharged four-cylinder has an output of 310 horsepower good for 3.8 pounds per horsepower.

The Atom hits 60 in 3.25 seconds and 100 in 7.07 seconds. The Panamera Turbo S is not behind by as much as you might think with 60 coming in 3.66 seconds and 100 in 8.45. Fast, just not supercharged Atom fast. By 150 miles per hour though the Panamera Turbo's aerodynamics help it overcome the power to weight disadvantage and it gets to 150 3/10's quicker than the Atom.

The Atom does not have the benefit of a trick DCT gearbox but in gear it will trounce the Panamera Turbo. Just as long as speeds are not so high as for the Atom's drag to be the deciding factor.

Those are some impressive numbers for the Turbo S....great color and wheel choice too. The facelift really makes these things beautiful (in my eyes). Of course, if you can afford the Porsche, you can probably afford to have the Atom for the weekend too.

The Panamera Turbo S really looked impressive in this video despite losing. The Atom has an absurd power to weight ratio but the Panamera does surprisingly well.

Makes me want an Atom even more. Love the whine of the S/C in the vid.
