Rust on 1 year old Exhaust tips? Really?

I've got 2 4" Black Powder Coated exhaust tips on my muffler delete, and in less than a year they already have a rust spot on them (inside edge, both tips).

I won't name the company, but I'm just really surprised. They DON'T put salt on the roads here in the winter, but they do use mag chloride (liquid), which is corrosive, just not as bad as salt.

Aside from masking off my entire rear end and just spray painting the tips, what else can I do to fix rust on powder coat?

Is it actually rusting into the tip or just surface rust? Try wiping it off with CLR or similar first.

+1 also keep in mind alot of ethanol fuels will hold some sort of water/moisture which over time can start to rust steel parts.

I'll try to buff with some CLR, i was just worried about screwing up the powdercoat and forcing myself to paint them.

I guess I'm trying not to call out a company on the forums if the problem is easily fixable.

But I laughed when I realized after I posted the company is in my signature haha. oops.

DiMisa Tips? I mean, it's really not "name brand" (Borla, Fabspeed, B&B, Active, etc) stuff so there's no guarantees with the quality. But pics would've helped to see the rust & where it's accumulating.

How bad is the rust? I was going to say just replace the tips or get them coated again yourself.

Post some pics! Unfortunately, in your climate, I would assume the winter will take it's toll on most exhaust systems

^Agreed. It is a bit odd that the rust is accumulating on opposite sides in "dimple" spots

I sent the company an email last night with photos and a screenshot of the paypal transaction.
They just said it isn't common but can happen from time to time. And then told me to just go buy some stainless steel cleaner from Ace and clean the tips.
    Stainless steel cleaner on powdercoat?

and Sticky, I was hoping to be done with the exhaust for now so i can worry about other parts of the car (maintenance, FMIC, tune, etc). I actually like the muffler delete, and would prefer to keep the setup (possibly add vibrant resonators and an xpipe at some point).

I have no advice at this point if they won't replace it for you.
