MotorTrend compares the 2014 Audi RS5 to the 2014 W204 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG 507 edition
Here are two German luxury sport coupes that are very familiar to German car enthusiasts as they share the majority of components with their well known sedan siblings. The RS5 is the fresher looking of the two coupes and technically the newest although it is using the naturally aspirated 4.2 liter V8 that we are all familiar with and is desperately in need of being replaced. Yes, Audi tweaked the motor a little bit more coaxing 450 horsepower horsepower out of the V8 which is 30 more than the B7 RS4 sold in the United States.
Audi also gives the RS5 their S-Tronic dual clutch gearbox which combined with the horsepower bump gives a slight performance boost over the B7 RS4. The elapsed time is a fairly impressive 12.3 seconds thanks to the grip and gearbox but the trap speed is only 112.2 miles per hour. Basically, it's not a match for the C63's brute force thanks to its 6.2 liter M156 motor with 507 horsepower routed to the rear wheels. That is a 56 horsepower bump on the standard C63 AMG and essentially the 507 edition offers the P31 Performance Package as standard. With a 12.2 @ 117.4 1/4 mile sprint it shows the raw power provided by the $9750 507 option is clearly ahead of the RS5.
Raw power isn't everything though, right? Even though the RS5 is outmatched in grunt it manages to put up a heck of a fight around the track thanks in part to its technology. This despite being the heavier car and having a very nose heavy 58/42 front to rear weight distribution. It just handles better than the C63 and offers greater grip. The RS5 manages .99g on the skidpad to the C63's .91g. Around the roadcourse it is the RS5 that comes out on top with 1:42.97 laptime to the C63's 1:43.45. Finesse, grip, and technology beat brute force this time.
These are two excellent cars with different approaches. The RS5 is more refined and composed. It is the better handling car of the two although heavier (~70 pounds more) and prone to understeer. The C63 is the more powerful car and able to kick its tail out thanks to the torque practically at will. The Benz is said to be more engaging of the two and ultimately likely more fun. Two excellent cars that go about their business in very different ways.

The AMG has the engine, the RS5 has everything else.
If the next C63 gets AWD and DCT, then I will buy one.
If not, Audi wins again.

Sucks that benz handicapped the car so much to not step on its big brothers toes(e63, sl, etc) You can clearly see if it had more grip that the lap time would go down significantly .91 skidpad is just OK. The car needs a LSD and wider stickier tires. An open diff on a 507 hp 6.2 L car is a joke ! And the 235/255 tire setup is clearly holding it back. My car is heavily modified and to this day the LSD was my favorite mod for enjoyment of the car the way i drive it(TC OFF all day) Either way sad to know this is going to be the last comparo of the badass german N/A trio ;-/ too bad the m3 didnt show up to show what RWD, LSD, and wider tires can do to track times

That RS5 in black is such a gorgeous car! With BMW (M3, M4) and Merc (C63) going for forced induction engines, I can't wait to see what Audi puts in the RS5, it's got to be something special, if you look at what they've done with the RS3 and RS7...
