Next Generation Lotus Esprit to get Lexus LF-A V10... and IS-F V8?

Certainly look like it, that is what insideline is reporting although they have gotten a few things wrong:

The next-generation Lotus Esprit supercar, details of which will be announced at the 2010 Paris Auto Show next month, could be powered by the 552-horsepower Lexus LFA V10, says a source close to the company.

That would be for the Esprit in its ultimate form — the more mainstream version would be offered with a V8, also likely to be sourced from Lexus. That engine will probably be a version of the 416-hp 5.0-liter engine fitted to the Lexus IS F sedan. When asked to confirm this possibility, a Lotus spokesman said that he "couldn't comment."
They may be trying to move too far up market. With the Evora S likely around the 80-90k mark where will the Esprit be?

the original esprit was not very pricey compared to the ferrari and lambo of that era. I would imagine that carries over today, hopefully somewhere in the 150 range.

    Exactly.

150 is the max and the figure I had in my head. That V10 is really nice, really really nice, but not 200+k nice. Lotus isn't on that level, it needs to be a 458 Italia value alternative, like what the LF-A should have been.

Lotus is good because they truly focus on performance. And keep it simple. If the new esprit is really the essence of the 1994 S4S, it will be a fast exotic that is not pricey and is still high level and fast.

I hope this is the case but Lotus is trying to move the marque upscale.

They should keep it simple and pure. Oh, and a value.

If the evora was outfitted with the LFA v10....nm, still doesn't justify a 200k+ sticker.

Which is going to the have the ISF v8?

Lotus wasnt notorious for having upscale engines. Hell they use a toyota engine in the elise and the evora. They are all about pure performance, who cares if they use X engine, it works right? I like their philosophy, simple and to the point

    I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I would never buy a Lotus with the current Toyota V6, what were they thinking?

Like I said, what were they thinking? And that SC I4 is a JOKE, I'd rather have an F20c than that piece......

And remember, I'm talking STOCK form. I know any one of these motors could be potent with a proper build.

You forget Lotus was hurting for cash when they sourced the motors from Toyota as well. They are doing much better financially now.

I have to agree that Toyota I4 is a POS compared to something like the K20 or F20 they could have used. Honestly I have nothign wrong with outsourcing engines, but when I first heard what powered an elise I LOL'd. The evora getting that V6 is sort of a stupid decision as well. I would be much happier if they used the VQ 3.5 V6 instead.

You guys assume the F20c would have been easy to source. Then you need the trans, ecu's, etc., it may have been a much more expensive option. Lotus needed someone to help them. Toyota helped them.

Yes, the Evora has a motor that is a pile of crap. Lotus is loyal to their supplier though and the S is going to be nice.
