    335D Powered Rally Fighter Resurrection

This car is the first Rally Fighter built by Local Motors, and the only one to be powered by a diesel out of a 2008 BMW 335D. It was chosen because it was a 50 state street legal clean diesel engine with urea injection. But due to supply issues and cost, it was not used in production and an LS3 was used instead.

The Beta car has long sat after it struck the car into limp mode. The car also overshot our jump, landing on it's nose which caused the skidplate and subsequent radiator support structure to crush the intercooler, causing further issues.

I have permission to get this car back to running condition, currently the car is throwing 27 engine related codes ranging from boost pressure, to DPF and urea injector malfunctions. I certainly have a lot of work ahead but with input and help from the community i'm sure we can get this piece of automotive history back on the road (and make it faster and beat out the gasoline powered competition of course Click here to enlarge)

I would post up some badass pics but I cannot Click here to enlarge

The first step was to evaluate the condition of the front of the car and determine how to remove the broken intercooler. The intercooler was sandwiched in between the chassis tubes and the skid plate support. We determined that the only way to remove it was to take off the front nose cone, hood and skidplate. Upon removal we found that the skid plate supports have penetrated into the intercooler and squeezed on the sides of the radiator. New skid plate, radiator, oil cooler and intercooler mounts will need to be fabricated.
I found a new intercooler on epay.

First start after sitting for two years! Turbo seals were leaky after sitting for that long.

First test Drive! running ok, no tune yet.

The bad robot intercooler is mounted and plumbed, we flipped it upside down and around to keep it out of the dirt.
Click here to enlargeDoing some more plumbing, replaceing the "snuffleupagus" orange intake tube with a solid piece because it kept popping off.

Almost done with the dash install, it actually looks nice. Tomorrow it is going on a trailer and getting tuned for the mods, registration came in and it is back insured. When it comes back from the tuning people it's getting a carpeted interior and it's done.
