Sub 7 minute Nurburgring laptime for the Porsche 918 Spyder? Yep. Record 6 minute 57 second Nurburgring laptime video

Wow. Quite simply, wow. Talk about raising the bar quite a bit. Porsche originally stated the 918 Spyder Nurburgring laptime was a very impressive 7 minutes and 14 seconds putting the hybrid sports car ahead of the Lexus LF-A, Carrera GT, 997 GT2-RS, etc. Porsche raised the bar to breaking the 7 minute barrier with an absolutely stunning 6 minute and 57 second laptime. The 918 Spyder setting the laptime had the Weissach package and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Porsche factory race car driver Marc Lieb piloted the car for the record setting laptime which annihilates the next closest cars the Gumpert Apollo Sport with its 7:11.57 and the Viper ACR's 7:12.13. Only the non-street legal roadcourse special Radical SR8 LM has posted a quicker laptime with a 6:48.

Jaw dropping performance from the 918 Spyder as Porsche shows the hybrid car is the real deal.

Glad Porsche was the first to break 6 min in a production.

Car looked really stable for the speeds.

Not really, the Zonda R is not a road car, it´s a race car.

Yeah, that's why I was so shocked that the Porsche could get so close. The Zonda R ran the 'ring with full slicks!

Wowww. This is awesome news. Although rumor is McLaren has had the P1 down to 6:55, which is entirely believable given its more powerful and lighter. But I don't care. The 918 is my new favorite car. Looks like sex, sounds like sex, goes like hell, and is relatively "affordable" compared to the LF, P1, Veyron, Huayra, and Agrera R. I love this thing.

Where did you hear that? Splitting hairs though.

Although this reminds me Porsche stated they can go quicker. Time to write an article... ugh.

Jalopnik a while back, there was a rumor that they had done a lap at 7:01 but didn't want it released because they knew it could do a 6:55 and were waiting to publish that. Although nobody really knows. And yeah 2 seconds at the ring is like, a tenth of a second at Laguna Seca. Not really a big difference.

It never ends. Quicker you say?

It's probably frustrating to do multiple laps on the ring though looking for a second here or there due to the length of each lap. Weather conditions, traffic, can all affect it.

Would suck to have to start over.

Yeah most definitely. I hope someone takes the Ferrari to the ring as well, not sure if they themselves will as they tend to stay out of that whole thing.

Click here to enlarge "What do you mean, Nurburgring? Sounds like a place for plebeians" Or whatever that would be in Italian.
