Formula 1 2013 - Victory for Mercedes AMG and Nico Rosberg at the Silverstone Grand Prix - Results

Congratulations to Nico Rosberg as well as the Mercedes AMG team for a strong showing and victory at the Silverstone Grand Prix in Great Britain. Mercedes was in position for a great result due to strong qualifying putting Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton at the front of the grid for the start of the race. When the dust settled it was Nico Rosberg standing on the top of the podium with the victory with Hamilton contributing valuable points finishing in fourth place.

Hamilton led the race but suffered a tire blowout. There were several tire blowouts during the race. Sebastian Vettel was able to take advantage but was forced to retire with a transmission failure opening the door for Nico Rosberg who did not disappoint. Great work by the pit crew contributed greatly.

Mercedes closed the gap with Red Bull Racing significantly and has a very good shot at the championship with the 2013 season not even reaching the midway point yet. Results below, congratulations and keep it up Mercedes!

    This was an awesome race.
it had me on the tip of the chair for most of the time.
the tire issue (4 exploding tires) has yet to be resolved.
the first analyses are is the backside of the curbes cut into the tires.
made for an awesome spectacle that's for sure.

I'm so happy Mercedes is getting stronger and stronger and really putting together a challenge for RBR. It's a pleasure to watch this season unfold. Happy for Rosberg as well.

+1. I don't normally watch F1, but happened to flip by just as the race started. After Hamilton's blow-out, I couldn't help but stay tuned. I'm still amazed how much he caught up.

The in-race determination on the cause of disintegrating tires is a little suspicious. Pirelli wanted to use different tires for the race, and I'm sure they had a good reason. Too bad the teams didn't agree.

There is talk of using 2012 tires until this problem is resolved.
Nobody wants another catastrophy like in Indianapolis 2007.
That was really bad for F1

Amazing race despite the fact that I recorded it on NBC SPORTS and the second I hit play it started with the idiots at NBC doing a recap of the race. As I ran for the remote I had already heard the results and was literally irate.
Thanks a lot NBC, your coverage SUCKS ASS and then you followed that little recap up with 15 mins of gay ass Tour de France so I miss the end of the race ????? $#@!ing morons over there at NBC...

Anyway, sorry for the rant. It was an amazing race but I have to think this ban on in season testing is really starting to negatively impact the teams in such a way that they are being given substandard equipment - ie tires. Probably one of the most important pieces of the car. I've been in an open wheel car when someone in front of me has a blowout and it's scary as $#@!. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to have been Alonso yesterday...No wonder the drivers are pissed.

I disagree. Pirelli said they wanted to bring a new tire and none of the teams could agree on it. So all Pirelli has to say is "hey we tried and you guys couldn't all get in the same page".
The problem is the in season testing ban. Because it not only hurts the teams to gather important data, but also the tire manufacturer cannot use the cars to test the tires. Computer can only do so much. You have to put the rubber on the ground and test it to see how it will handle real world conditions. Perhaps the tires are totally fine, which I think they may be....maybe it was just a few "kerbs" at Silverstone that were eating up the left rears. That track was putting their tires under some MAJOR side loading. Throw in a few turns with some beat up old nasty "kerbs" and you have yourself a big problem.

I'm just glad no one was hurt.

Me either. I like watching F1, but I never pay for TV because outside of certain news, playoffs, and other minor things here and there, I never watch it.

The FIA has now approved that Pirelli can do 2x 3 day testing from 17 to 19 July, with 2013 F1 cars and current drivers on the circuit of Silverstone, to test the situation that has arizen.
Mercedes is specifically excluded from these tests because of their previous secret tire test.
