I have a love/hate relationship with the Petersen Automotive Museum. They always have amazing cars on display, but whoever sets up the exhibits must hate photographers. Rope barriers and cluttered backdrops ruin the best angles. So I'm limited to tight framing if I want to get any sort of halfway decent compositions. "Car Parts" as in parts of cars, "Auto Detail" as in detail shots of automobiles. Bad jokes all around, I know.

Ah I get it. I was supposed to to the Peterson museum for the LA Bacon Fest but ended up missing it.

Take it you recommend the museum?

The museum itself is great, especially when they have one of their better exhibits. They had an amazing collection of supercars there for awhile that I went to see several times (959, F40, F50, SLR, XJ220, GT40, Miura, etc. off the top of my head). If you can dig up a student ID, $5 to loiter all day.

Happen to have an "expired" student ID on me. But I'm sure it would work.

Regardless, sounds like it is worth attending.

Rest assured, mine has long since expired, but I doubt the guy working the front desk much cares. I just remembered that supercar exhibit also had a CLK GTR, CLK DTM, Countach, Bugatti EB110, and more. But it's not there at the moment, sadly.

Those cars are not on display, but they are there. They're in the "vault" which is the basement and it's a huge underground parking lot where they store many of their cars. You can take the "Vault Tour" to see them all. Or, you can just sit at Sunset Plaza on a sunny Saturday afternoon having lunch and see most of the same stuff roll by Click here to enlarge

Good to know, I'll be keeping an eye out for the encore. In the meantime, here are a few selections from my own vault:

    It's official: Petersen hates photographers.
