My 335i Full Correction :)

Hello All,
I realized I have posted some other threads of some sweet cars, but never one on my own! Here is a detail I did after picking it up. Have done nothing since then but a couple maintenance washes . I will grab some pics of it tomorrow to show that with the right technique, you can really take care of the paint! On to the good stuff...


Exterior


- Sonax Wheel Cleaner to all 4 wheels and cleaned up with various brushes
- Wheel wells were cleaned up and dressed
- Washed with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash
- Iron X to remove any iron deposits in the paint
- Wash down and rinsed
- Door jambs were cleaned up
- Clayed
- Dried
- Masked up
- Megs 105 on a Surbuf (started on an orange pad, and just wasnt cutting it)
- Megs 205 on a White pad
- Menz PO85RD on a black bad
- Washed down again with CGCW (to remove all oils)
- Black Fire Wet Diamond by hand (allowed to cure over night)
- Rubber and Plastics cleaned and treated
- Exterior windows and mirrors cleaned, clayed and polished
- Exhaust tips cleaned and polished




Engine -
- Cleaned
- Dressed


Interior -
- Vacuumed
- Wiped down and protected all platics
- Leather Cleaned and Conditioned

$200 or so....depending on how much correction is needed. That includes interior detailing.

All your work looks great man, love it! I'll be doing the first full correction on my car soon. Its funny that you started with M105 on an orange pad, but switched to the surbuf pads. I tried this combo when i first picked up my car, and just couldn't get it to finish down properly, but wasn't sure if my technique was causing the issue since it was my first attempt. I ordered in the surbuf pads but just havent tried them on my personal car yet. Glad to hear that this combo finished down so well on Alpine White, gives me hope!

Question: I'm assuming you buffed the headlights, do you use anything other than sealant/wax for UV protection? Any recommendations?

Also, did you notice any tangible difference between the finish of the M205 vs PO85RD? Would you change anything in your process if you had to do it over?

Thanks for the kind words sir! Yea I find that AW is a a bit tough to finish down, but I would recommend carrying a spray bottle filled with water when using 105. As the surface goes dry, hit the area you are working with a spray of water to reactivate the 105 and slow the polisher down slightly. It will finish down easier and still hit those really hard to hit surface imperfections. Don't get to aggressive though because 105 is no joke lol And as far as 205 to 85rd, i us 85rd as a final because it really does a nice job of jeweling the paint. While 205 works down GREAT, I am a perfectionist lol. And the headlights were not polished, but i have used the 3m kit on other cars and it works wonders sealing with BFWD. You may also want to look into D300 on a MF pad

I really want to start actually detailing my car. Right now im using some micro-fibre/old towels + Meguiars Gold Shampoo for my wash, some Meguiars QuickWax if i dont have time, and then Meguiars Gold Paste Wax when i have time. I use some old rags for the rims.

What would you suggest i add/change to my routine? I was thinking of getting a better shampoo, some better towels, better wax, and adding some steps. I have a Mothers Clay Bar kit, but i have no idea how to use it and havent tried yet.... I just see all these chemicals and tools people use and the results are great, but im not sure what i should get!

This will remove swirl marks, nasty bugs, and overall clean up/ condition the paint. Then ask them what wash mitt, soap, drying towels, etc to use to keep the finish looking good. My detailer sent me to websites for products to buy, told me about the two bucket method, etc.

Black shows dirt SO easy. I hate owning a black car LOL. I loved how white looked on my Eclipse and Galant but again got dirty easy. My Space Grey 335i was my favorite color car, right up there with my maroon Shelby Daytona back in the day LOL.

Black / darker colors look the best when cleaned and wax though. I love my alpine white e92, but you have to study the car to tell the difference between a standard wash and wax guy and someone who spends a weekend polishing out all swirl marks and sealing/waxing the car. My buddy has a Jet black 535, when we detail his car it looks soaking wet. My next car will be a darker color...
