Hate when people use a torch on a bottle.

I find the compound boost stuff with diesels incredibly interesting.

Compound boost is really an interesting concept for sure... Seen several Cobra's and GT500's running it previously. Never on a diesel

Usually it is done on diesels more than gasoline motors.

For sure....but there are still quite a few gasoline applications. A few of the recent factory S/C sport compacts....old Cooper S and Cobalt SS come to mind had turbo kits designed to work with the factory blower, and anything with a sequential twin turbo setup is technically still a compounding boost setup (not sure if you guys were talking just in terms of S/C w/ T/C setups)...so Supras would be the biggest example there.
Never thought I would see the day...

Sequential is a bit different isn't it?

Well in some applications...to be honest i have no idea how many of each...or actually which he supra uses...

It depends on how the plumbing and valves (wastegates) are setup. Some run one turbo and use some exhaust to spool another, larger turbo. When boost reaches a point the smaller turbo is bypassed and the larger takes over.

In some the same thing occurs but the first turbo keeps running the whole time.

And then there is the compound setup where the second turbo compresses the air that just came out of the primary turbo. I think this is often referred to as a staged setup...that could be one of the other ones though.
Never thought I would see the day...

Definitely still a "compound" setup then, at least the way I always understood it "compound" just referred to the boost being multiplied by a second (or more) compressor. So not all sequential setups, but the one you and I were referring to.
