Volkswagen planning World Domination - Says it will be largest automaker on the planet by 2018

A bold claim indeed, eh? The VW Group says it will be the biggest automaker in the world by 2018 according to this interesting Car and Driver article. That would mean supplanting Toyota and General Motors. Why is that a big deal? Well, due to the premium brands in the VW arsenal that are not exactly big sellers. We are talking Audi, Porsche, Bugatti, Bentley, and Lamborghini. Toyota and General Motors do not exactly have competition for the high end of those instead having a product line focused far more on economy models making VW's big plans all the more impressive.

Will it happen? The VW Group needs to expand in the USA for it to be possible. They would essentially need to take the low end segment from GM and Toyota. We think VW's offering in this area is superior to anything GM and Toyota produces so it certainly is possible. We will have to wait and see.
