Um...ive cracked rings in engine before and the pistons were perfectly fine. Too much timing will do that to you. I had the pistons checked, they were perfectly fine, and i reassembled the engine. The piston does not have to get damaged or look likr it was detonated on to break a ring.

Would you say it's a good idea to rebuild a motor if a few rings are cracked?

I would at least check it out to make sure. In my case, i had too much timing in the lower RPM ranges, and it detonated and cracked them. The motor was usually taken apart in a few hours and re-ringed, the bores were checked and put back together.

It took 3 times rebuilding it due to the same issue, but it now makes 605whp at 15lbs on pump gas all day long.
